Basketball/Volleyball Eligibility Requirements

To be eligible, a player must meet one (1) of the following. Eligibility will be verified by the Athletic Director in accordance with CYO bylaws.

• Enrolled at Holy Spirit School, or

• Enrolled in Holy Spirit Faith Formation (minimum 70% attendance and enrolled previous year) , or

• Reside within Holy Spirit Parish boundaries - check address: https://app.backspin360.com/parish-locator/

Boundary Student Required Documents (if not a Holy Spirit student or in Faith Formation)

• Birth certificate (new players only)

  (Mortgage statement, bank statement, or CA Driver’s License may be accepted if a utility bill is unavailable.)

Player Priority

Holy Spirit School students & Faith Formation Students receive priority placement during team declarations, based on roster availability and CYO guidelines.

Holy Spirit CYO Registration Fee Breakdown

Holy Spirit CYO is a volunteer-run ministry of Holy Spirit Parish and part of the Catholic Diocese of Oakland’s youth programs. As a non-profit organization, all funds are used to support our athletes and ensure a quality sports experience. Coaches and board members are unpaid volunteers who dedicate their time to help children grow through sports. Your registration fee helps cover uniforms, equipment, gym and facility use, officials, scorekeepers, insurance, administrative expenses, and more. While not every item is detailed below, most major income and expense categories are included.

Registration Fees (By Sport)

• Boys Basketball: $365

• Girls Basketball: $365

• Girls Volleyball: $315

• Cheerleading: $120

• Cross Country: $45

• Track & Field: TBD

• Note: Additional revenue sources include donations, sponsorships, fundraisers, spirit wear sales, concessions, camps, and CYO-sanctioned tournaments.

Covers the cost of joining athletic leagues:

• Girls Volleyball: $650/team ($65/player)

• Girls Basketball: $700/team ($70/player)

• Boys Basketball: $900/team ($90/player)

• Officials: Volleyball $18–$22, Basketball $30

• Scorekeepers: Volleyball & Girls Basketball $18–$30, Boys Basketball: Volunteer parents

• Gym/facility rentals

• League admin expenses
  Affiliated Leagues: Mission Valley Athletic League (Boys), Southern Alameda County Girls League, Mission Valley Track – Section 3

• Basketball (Boys & Girls): $100/player (personalized jersey & shorts)

• Volleyball (Girls): $65/player (personalized long sleeve)

Gym Equipment Fees

• Total Cost: $4,000 │ $20 per student
  Includes:

• Volleyballs, carts, nets, poles, ref stands & pads

• Training Equipment

Safety Fees

• Total Cost: $3,000 │ $8 per student
  Includes:

• AED ($2,000/year)

• CYO accident insurance ($1/player, $1/coach)

• First aid kits, ice packs, tape

Tournament Fees

• Total Cost: $4,000 │ $22 per student
  Includes:

• Entry fee for one CYO-sanctioned tournament per team

• Teams may join up to 4 tournaments; HSCYO pays for the first

• Tournament awards

Administrative Fees

• Total Cost: $3,500 │ $13 per student
  Includes:

• Extra gym rental (4 local schools being considered)

• Website: $358/year

• Board software: $2,592/year

• Office supplies: $200

• Gym floor: $6,515 (shared with parish & school)

• Bleachers: $2,450

• Each Player receive 2 tickets

• Proceeds go directly to the parish

• $20 per student

• Includes individual, team, and custom-designed Sport Mate photo

Scholarships

• Total Cost: $2,400 │ $9 per student
  Includes:

• Graduating 8th Grade Scholarships: $500 each for 1 male and 1 female student (must have played 3 seasons including 8th grade)

• Need-based aid: Up to 4 students per season at $365 each

Athlete Participation (Average per Sport)

• Basketball (Boys & Girls): 270 athletes

• Girls Volleyball: Included above

• Cross Country: 20 athletes

• Cheer: 10 athletes

• Track & Field: 80 athletes

• Boys Sand Volleyball: 6 athletes

• Team size: ~10 athletes per team

Practice Schedule (Tentative)

Exact practice times will be finalized after tryouts and once coaches are assigned. Below is a general outline to help families plan ahead:

Girls Basketball/Volleyball (Grades 3–8)

• Days: Tuesdays & Thursdays

• Time Range: 4:30 PM – 10:00 PM

• Note:

  • Younger grades will typically practice earlier in the evening.

  • 7th & 8th grade teams will usually practice later, between 8:00 PM - 10:00 PM.

Boys Basketball (Grades 3–8)

• Days: Mondays, Wednesdays, Fridays, and Sundays

• Time Range: 3:30PM-10PM Varies by Grade/Coaches

• Note:

  • Practice slots will be assigned after teams are formed.

  • 3 American and 3 National practice 3:30-4:30PM Tuesday and Thursday
